Assistant Professor of Fashion Merchandising

The School of Fashion at Lasell University in Newton, MA seeks a highly motivated, collaborative and business-driven individual to assume the responsibilities of Assistant Professor of Fashion Merchandising for a Fall 2024 appointment. More senior rank will be considered based on experience and other credentials.

Combining a strong Liberal Arts core with professional courses, the School of Fashion produces graduates ready to compete for careers in fashion merchandising, design and media. From buying, planning, product development and marketing, to journalism and designing, our alumnae can be found occupying positions at companies such as Nordstrom, WGSN, Burberry, Nic +Zoe, Puma, Calvin Klein, Brides Magazine, WWD, Timberland, and the TJX Corporation, as well as becoming creative and successful entrepreneurs. With the support of faculty, fashion students at Lasell University create, manage, and distribute an award-winning bi-annual fashion and culture publication and e-zine, POLISHED Magazine (www.polishedfashion.com). In addition, the faculty work with students to produce two fashion shows, showcasing over 400 student designs drawing a crowd of over 1,500 attendees.

Responsibilities: We seek a candidate with significant experience in Fashion Merchandising, Fashion History and Fashion Curation. The successful candidate will teach across the curriculum with an emphasis on our Fashion Merchandising program. Working closely with the Fashion Merchandising Program Coordinator, the candidate will have the ability to shape the on-going development of the Fashion Merchandising curriculum. The successful candidate will exemplify and cultivate inclusive teaching practices and effective intercultural engagement among colleagues and students and partner in fostering an inclusive atmosphere. Additionally, the ideal candidate would potentially serve as the curator for the Lasell Fashion Collection, which contains over 3,000 objects and spans 200 years of fashion history. A research background in analysis and sustainability are welcomed qualifications.

Qualifications: A Master's Degree with at least five years of industry experience; terminal degree, such as MBA, MFA, or Ph.D., required; demonstrated commitment to contributing to an inclusive campus environment in which students and personnel from all backgrounds can thrive. Prior college teaching in higher education is preferred.
